Intro to River SUP: 6 Week Course Wednesdays, 5/3/23 - 6/6/23, 6pm-7:30pm Paddleboarding on mountain rivers is a magical experience … once you’ve got the basics. Our 6 Week River SUP Progression Course is designed to take you from stiff-legged SUP ‘rider’ to a light-footed River SUP paddler with less effort and more confidence. Low instructor to student ratio yields the attention you need to progress and multiply your enjoyment. We bet you will fall in love with SUP and leave your classes inspired to play more! By the end of this course students will have the knowledge and skills to control their position anywhere on class I moving water and be able to confidently descend class II rapids. This course covers the following: - SUP equipment and outfitting for the river. - Trip planning and safety. - River reading and route finding. - Launching, mounting, falling, and remounting your board. - Paddle strokes, bracing, and developing power. - Stance, balance, and alignment. - Basic river maneuvers including eddy turns, peel outs, and ferries. Times: Classes meet each Wednesday from 6:00pm till 7:30pm. The first class is Wed, May 3, 2023. The last class is on June 6, 2023. Locations: Rivers are changeable and so are we! We host at different locations each week depending on river conditions, student progress, and class objectives. Locations will be confirmed by email the day before each weekly class. This will also introduce you to the many places around Erwin where you can practice and play. Gear: We believe in “Paddle whatcha got!” If you have a board that you’re already comfortable with, GREAT, use it! You may also rent equipment for use during classes for a single $120 charge for the entire 6 class series (for use during classes only). $800 refundable deposit required. Normal equipment package rental is $40. Equipment including paddleboards is also available for purchase. Required gear: USCG approved Type III or V river-appropriate PFD Helmet Paddle Paddleboard Closed-toe shoes NOTE: Inflatable PFDs are not approved for this course.
